Not to panic anyone, but the last two times that I saw ATMs down for a weekend was when
    1. BCCI collapsed
    2. Kuwait got invaded and all the Kuwaitis started pulling cash out en masse

However in those day they probably had no swift means of identifying which customers were suddenly facing losses so they closed the ATMs to everyone just in case.

P.S. Anyone want to borrow a fiver until Monday?

It was me. My name is James and I am phoning you from London. No, I am not Indian and I'm not phoning you from India. It must be a bad line, that is all. Machines are down due to plenty cheapness of the ITs. Many thanks yous for your call.

Wierd thing is that the Barclays ATMs were down in central London today. Had to go into M&S to buy a Pot Noodle and ask for £40 cash back.

    very embarrassing.
