The Romans had a thing about albino squirrels. They had a few hundred trained attack squirrels attached to X legion in the campaign to subdue the Helvetii. They also staged a chariot race in Circus maximus with a light chariot drawn by 200 racing squrrels versus an elephant drawn heavy chariot driven by Caligula. Unfortunately his @rse was too big to fit between the shafts.
A bit unfair calling him a "hit & run driver", when (a) if he'd swerved or emergency braked to avoid it he'd have been guilty of dangerous driving, and (b) if he'd stopped and picked it up he'd have been contravening game laws*.
