RC is right.
Worked on a site where I was supposed to be CTC cleared (I wasn't) and I could move around without an escort. Worked on a site where only basic clearance was required and couldn't go to the ladies on my own. Prob to do with the configuration of the buildings.
I've never worked on a site where they let me go to the ladies yet.

I'm astounded that they expect you to wait. Took me 9 weeks to get mine transferred this summer to current project, during which time I had to be escorted everywhere by someone with DV clearance (including the loos).
Each site and every system has a separate security assessment. This determines the risks and out of it comes the advice: is it Unclassified, BC, SC, DV, other? Are there special codicils? What access do allies get? Can people be escorted or not and if so, how many on site at any one time? Attack dogs or machine guns on the gate? And so on.
Do not be surprised by different rules at different sites. It is normal and correct.
I don't care, the public sector always pay over the odds when wasting our taxes.
Agreed, my best rates and easiest gigs have always been with the MoD.
Funny how my lowest rate is with a private company doing the same work but now outsourced by the MoD. No saving to to the taxpayer it just means EDS have muscled in and taken a cut.
Nah I have to be cleared for this one, else they'd need me escorted everywhere, including the loos!

Seems very strange that they can't get you on-site yet.
and every time (3 so far) I've had SC it has taken more than 3 months for no good reason. They lost the forms twice and one admin woman e-mailed me with additional questions that were not on the form every two weeks. This happened even after I asked her to confirm she now had all the info she needed. They are a shower IMHO.
Moral of the story : Never assume you have a contract until you are on site at your desk.....Always keep looking.
whs. and even after getting to your desk - still keep looking.
sa - i would only assume that you are cica 50% there. only you can decide whether that 50% deserves to be more. what do the whites of their eyes say to you? don't trust them - they don't trust you (yet).
