Pair buy a sausage factory in a real rough part of London. Previous owner part-converted it, and tried for 4 years to sell it before they stepped in at the very height of the boom and payed ~£1m. It's absolutely huge, 5000sq feet, but in between boarded up shops etc. They initially budget 250k, which shot to ~£600k when they wanted to spend £30k+ on bathrooms and install a cinema and salt-water spa the size of a swimming pool.
It ended with them dumping their plan and turning it into flats, projected to lose up to half a million if they could sell.

I was about to relate one of my previous jobs (working in a "sausage factory") when I saw the thread title. Didn't last long - very few did. A bit of a seasonal job too.
