I was about to agree with you on "and what is fact is not necessarily the same thing" until you wandered off into the fantasy world of Narnia. Oh well, wherever you feel most comfortable I suppose.Originally posted by ChicoHahaaaa .... that was funny. Mordac as has been pointed out many times what most people believe (the self styled atheists on this board) and what is fact is not necessarily the same thing. Chico I don't think you'll have too many disagreeing with you over the merits and successes of latterday Christianity.
What most of us are saying, at least me anyway, is keep it (and other religions) well away from the political establishment.
If you bring the Church back into Parliament and afford it the power to author and co author legislation, you will witness the rapid undoing of what you profess to be the virtues of Christian democracy.
Again, it is Christianity's proven and demonstrated willingness to shy away from political power, that has given it its tolerant, gentle and non interfering existance.
And when I outline those virtues of Christianity, I'm not affording those virtues to every person who claims to be Christian.

Don't know what the reason was but I was reading this thread and the words to an old song came into my head.
I feel it in my fingers
I feel it in my toes
The love that's all around me
And so the feeling grows
It's written on the wind
It's everywhere I go
So if you really love me
Come on and let it show
You know I love you, I always will
My mind's made up by the way that I feel
There's no beginning, there'll be no end
'Cause on my love you can depend
I see your face before me
As I lay on my bed
I cannot get to thinking
Of all the things you said
You gave your promise to me and I gave mine to you
I need someone beside me in everything I do
You know I love you, I always will
My mind's made up by the way that I feel
There's no beginning, there'll be no end
'Cause on my love you can depend
I got to keep it moving
It's written in the wind
Oh everywhere I go
So if you really love me
Come on and let it show
Come on and let it,
Come on and let it,
Come on and let it,
Come on and let it show

And most of the problems on this planet stem from the fact that they all believe in different Gods. So while you may believe you're right, you can be sure that almost everyone else believes you're wrong. Just like this board then.Originally posted by ChicoErmmm... is that right most of the people on this planet believe in a God.. Get with times dude..

Including your terrorists. So we've come full circle. But anyway it whittled away a boring Friday afternoon listening to the random vapourings of an evolutionary failure. Enjoy the cosmic dance dude (it even has a place for you) and have a good weekendOriginally posted by ChicoErmmm... is that right most of the people on this planet believe in a God.. The West has indeed led the way in economic, scientific and political progress over the last 200 years or so. Of course you would have us believe this is all thanks to holy trinity or because Jesus died on a wooden cross or some other garbage you believe in.Who set up the democracies in those countries? Answer the Christian West.
Chico, you're obviously a deluded bafoon but you may have noticed that most of your fellow humans are not quite so stupid to hold such opinions. Have a nice weekend.

And read about the suffragettes and abolitionists and you find that it was their Christian beliefs which drove them to fight the prevailing norms. Christians have been fighting prejudice in whatever form they find it, wherever they find itOriginally posted by Rebecca LoosChico you are not being intellectually honest. Greek democracy was no utopia, it simply assimilated what was believed in those times (that slavery was OK), but for its citizens it was democracy nonetheless.
If I remember rightly, the early Christian democracy were not too hot on women either.
When British parliamentary monarchy started, slavery was still legal too
