Buying albums from apple? Far too expensive. www.allofmp3 is the future, I generally pay about £1.50 for a legally downloaded album.

In terms of Sony, they have broken the Computer Misuse Act. It's whether anyone can be arsed suing them. read about it here:

This piece is hilarious. Basically Sony copy-protection means it will play through the proprietary player and won't let you copy to an ipod. Unfortunately, the copy protection doesn't work on a Mac so import into iTunes and burn away...

Re-read the sentence above beginning "But the quality won't be the same..."

The idea is nothing like vinyl which can "Easily defeated by a simple low pass filter...", the idea from what I've read is that each piece of electronic equipment in your house will only support a DRM connection if you want to hook it up to something else and you want the 'Full Monty'.

If you don't (unless someone hacks it), you might still have your AUX or combined stereo/analogue video port but thats about it...no 5.1/7.1/DTS, no SACD, no HD...

But the quality won't be the same will it, just like all those pirate DVD's filmed by some guy with a video in a cinema. The idea is that if you want the real thing you have to go through them.

As for that AUX port, I think they're doing their best to do away with that as well...with stuff like HDMI etc I believe the idea is each piece of equipment contains DRM/decryption etc to determine whether it can be viewed/connected/listened to.

I think the music industry is flogging a dead horse.

It only takes 1 person to plug their stero into the AUX port on their sound card. - Play - record - share.

Within days 1000's of people will be sharing those files..

If they took all the money they are wasting on chasing people and knocked it off the price of the CD's we would all be quids in !!

Very, it is actualy illegal for them to do this in the UK. I am sure the outcome of another case in the US could upset them too. A woman is suing some music industry bod after they put spyware on her computer to find out if she was a music thief, it is looking like even if she was, they are not allowed to do it. This Sony stuff could come under the same ruling if it goes her way.

Hopefully it will cost them and others a lot of money.
