Contrary to popular belief Edinburgh is not full of natives. Upstairs from me live 2 Londoner's who have more money than sense, a German chappy next door and I cannot even pretend to identify the nationality of the remaining neighbours.

The place is generally full of Londoners, not many from other parts of England strangely, Oz loads of Oz folk, Irish are all popular and a number of yanks too... Polish folk too let's not forget but not as many as you would think.

Edinburgh reminds of me of Bergen, hardly a Norwegian in sight as many Norwegians could not afford to live there, Edinburgh is the same with Scots, many of us despise the expense of living in toon.

    Thanks.

So the general consensus is: Mostly, it's rubbish. One (Scottish) person likes the place, another thinks it's not Scotland, and it's Embra, not Edinburgh, ye saesenach.

    Any other (relevant) opinions?

I quite like Edinburgh, there is quite a lot to do in the town centre and if they ever finish the trams then the place will look nice again. Downsides are the tourists who get to unbelievable levels in August and it can be quite pricey.

One of the few places in the UK where you can really live in the town centre.

I was up in Scotland last summer and noticed that they're just about to build a tram line.
All good, but from Richmond you have the District Line to go central in 30 minutes and that's been around for a while...

I also heard Edinburgh being described as a financial hub of the north, second only to London...

The weather's more rainy and an average 4 degrees lower.

    They also deep fry everything....

So why on earth would you prefer that over London, I don't know.
