I did read it, I just think the logic is very dubious, never mind the ethical side! How can a struggling live animal make it more likely to achieve a perfect cut than an animal that's been killed 30 seconds later?

You could make more out of it if after you put them down you skinned them and sold their fur.

Like the OP I'm no eco nut either but I remember this being highlighted by Paul McCartney a few years ago (he refused to play in China or something) & it moved me enough to subscribe to WSPA who were campaigning against this barbarism. I don't like to see any animal being mistreated but, for me, the fact that it's happening to dogs makes it even worse. The good thing is that as more and more Chinese start to keep dogs as pets, attitudes are changing & there are various animal welfare groups springing up that will hopefully put an end to these practices.

I only donate / sign petitions for humanistic causes.

Although I would prefer for animals not to suffer, they are pretty good at killing each other. And they certainly don't worry about killing each other in a humane way.

Yes we can choose if to kill animals or not, but I would prefer to concentrate my efforts on helping other humans.
