Conservatives looked like they were struggling with this today.
Brown was not changing the electoral goal posts today, he was changing the goal posts of the political battering he was getting in the last week.

The economy is in fine, fighting shape.
The housing market is buoyant and 1st time buyers have no problems getting a loan.
We have a wonderful, cohesive systems of laws implemented in the EU that really do understand the microeconomic factors of the UK.
Crime is at an all time low.
The public services are awash with money and there's no need to cut anything back.
The UK Transport infrastructure is also "world class".
There are more jobs than people (and no imported labour)
The Army has the best kit in the world.
Tax is fair.
Gordon Brown has saved the Universe.
And you are Gordon Brown in disguise. Because he is fekking delusional as well.
Most of that could have been directed at the last Government at some stage or another, and I can't see how they wouldn't have made similar choices (probably not quite as bad). No government has that much control over the big issues. Some things improve but most of the issues above will remain. I'd vote Tory for personal benefit, the large issues won't be significantly addressed

How's that? that's almost akin to NG's "slum" remarks on Sunday.

13% interest rates. Inflation 10%. 12.5% drop in values in three years. 75,000 repossessions in 1991 (30,000 last year). Mortgage as % of net salary : 40%, (Dunno now to be fair).Originally posted by ace00 View PostYou go look it up. Then report to me.

It was bad then, it's not as bad now (Might get as bad, but so far - no).

How low can you go
So they will replace hundreds of years of legislation, into something that will be geared even more to partisan politics?
Why? This is not the problem. Its that some MPS (And not only labour) are corrupt thieving barstewards who are sh1t at their job.
So, reform the expenses system and fire the sh1t, corrupt MP's and concentrate on other stuff.
I think though that the time is past for him, GB cannot do a thing now without people saying he is scr3wing something up. He has no poltical or public support and if he has to wheel out the epically sh1te Peter Hain for his cabinet, he must be pretty desparate. IIRC PH was forced to resign because of oversight in administration(Code for thieving corrupt bstd).
I think GB's tactics are as simple as waiting for the cyclic economic upturn so he can claim it was owing to his stewardship of the economy, and use the politcal capital to increase his popularity. In the meantime they will stoke up and tinker with random sh1te and pray it happens before GE next year

Nope, it wasn't labour voters, it was lack of voters for other parties! The same thing that gave the BNP their seats!Originally posted by Board Game Geek View PostWhat is the government for then ?
The list above are just some of the things the existing government was supposed to control and improve. Each of them was on the manifesto.
Let's not split hairs.
The Government = Epic Fail.
Who put the government there ?
Labour Voters.

The voting public.
Some of whom voted tory before, and will go back to voting them again. And maybe got put off in the middle by how attrociously bad the tories were back then (I'd put them on a par with labour now).
What was you're point with that statement exactly?

The housing market isn't ****ed because of labour - we had bigger housing crashes under the tories. It's ****ed because of greedy bankers, deregulation and problems in the US housing market - I genuinely don't think the tories would have made a blind bit of difference to that bit.
Same with the EU, we're part of it - we get the laws. Only way to avoid that is pull out, and if the tories had tried that they'd have fell apart at the seams (They almost did).
I reckon the tories would have been as bad, but labour's time is well and truly up, time for a change. If that change means more choices than two tulip parties then I'm personally all for it - cause I've never been happy with either party and our current system that basically means I get no say in how the country is run.
