Mich,
have you driven from Frankfurt to Koblenz, along the river (whichever one it is, apologies for being a philostine), amazing drive, loads of castles along the river and scenery, it's kind of like the wye valley x 10.
anyway, in Koblenz the river to frankfurt meets to Mosel, amazing to look at the join from the castle above, you are correct those mosel reislings are fantastic, have one in the fridge at home at the moment and boxes in the cellar
another interesting place in germany is the friedrickshaven area, fantastic wine villages down there, and of course, a short hop from strasbourg and the alsace region
I have to say folks, if you like driving, and you like fine architecture, countryside, cultures, cuisine, wine and ale, then europe is a fascinating continent to have the chance to live in
Milan.

Yeah actually you're right; the entire Benelux is a third rate tuliphole and British tourists are well advised to avoid it. Most of Germany's pretty tulip too, Switzerland and Austria are hideous, Italy's a complete tip, Slovenia and Croatia are simply awful and in fact there's really nowhere worth visiting until you reach your 2 star all-meals-included appartment in Crete.Originally posted by expat View PostShh Shh Shh

Shh Shh ShhOriginally posted by Mich the Tester View PostIt is, and the chavs will ignore it simply because there's nothing there for them. If you like beautiful countryside, good wines, good food and a generally civilised atmosphere you'll like the place. Don't just go to the city, but get out to the places along the Mosel. That's another gem; anyone who thinks the Mosel region only makes terrible cheapo wines is very mistaken; some of the very best dry Rieslings are from Mosel.
Just do a google picture search of Luxembourg and you'll see.

I'm contracting in Haarlem, which is a very smart place indeed. All the smaller Hanseatic towns like Haarlem, Zwolle and Deventer are really very nice places, somewhat similar to Antwerpen or Gent but smaller.Originally posted by milanbenes View PostI know, lived in Antwerpen for 3 yrs contracting and travelled a lot in the area, long weekends in Ardennes, Luxembourg, Durbey etc
you have some beautiful towns too, that square in Delft with the church with the spire that appears to have been extended and extended during different architectural periods, amazing,
all the best,
Miland.
Then there's Dutch and Belgian Limburg; imagine the English countryside with Dutch and Belgian towns, a few vineyards and some of Europe's best restaurants. Long may the chavs ignore it.

Don't tell anyone but Luxurybourg is rather nice too.Originally posted by milanbenes View PostMich,
the reason Belgium is such a nice place and such a little gem is because the majority of Brits overlook Belgium as insignificant and not worth a look in
long may the situation continue i say

Yes it is. It’s (somewhat quietly) a very nice place. I would rather keep it that way though, seeing as it’s only a couple of hours drive for us.Originally posted by BrilloPad View PostOh yeah : armed forces have only enough budget to invade Belgium. Which is not worth invading....

Duh, the rest of the world's in recession too, not in a small part thanks to the Gordon and George show.
