Speaking to Newsnight he said 100,000 people will lose their job each month "at least until the end of the year".

He warned we face a "lost generation" of young people if the government fails to invest in the future.

The state of the UK jobmarket doesn't in itself actually have much of an impact on the Dow. The main reason for the drop was the latest release of jobless figures that were pretty grim.

Of course, the fact that Cheyney opened his trap again may have something to do with it - I wonder which bit of "your team lost the election" he doesn't understand?
