Is it not a legit business expense? I have a home and pay the bills and would only be renting a flat to allow me to do my job. As it's 110 miles from where I live, I would be saving £55 a day in mileage costs!
How about.....

Claim the 220miles of fuel a day. 440 quid a week
Or end up with an obsessive compulsive - do you know you left the door of the grill open last night?? and a packet of cornflakes was left on the work surface today, and the breadbin was outside it's proper place by at bleast a foot!!, do YOU REALLY THINK THIS IS ACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOUR????

Regarding reting a flat, you wouldn't believe the hassle involved in dealing with a lettings agency. They require a reference from previous landlord if relevant, a reference from employer (????), a reference from accountant, copies of pay slips (????), a credit check and a criminal record check, all of which can take almost 2 weeks. And then you might find out that the previous tenants have not yet moved out, and their move is contingent on a purchase of a flat completing.
Regarding buying a flat, a purchase might take 2 months, and maybe more, and of course it might fall through if there is a chain. And you have to pay 1% tax to Gordon Brown. But then again it's such a pleasure to give money to such a nice man isn't it esp. since he will use it so well.
And if you rent or buy you have to pay council tax ~£700+ per year.
You could rent a room in a house - and end up sharing with a psychopath who thinks he is with the special services as happened with a friend - or find yourself being screamed at and threatened with assault by someone employed as a personal trainer in a gym as happened to me - or find yourself unable to sleep and becoming psychotic due to sleep deprivation when the people in another room make noise until the early hours and wake up at 5am as happened to me.
Generally renting a flat or room involves a 6 month initial contract which commits you to paying 6 months rent.
My accountant told me you can claim for flat rental if you keep your main home. So this implies you could buy a house in some tuliphole in wales or the north for peanuts, rent a fooking luverly apartment through the books and enjoy a nice quality of accommodation.
I guess travelling from home everyday would mean I could claim £55 a day. Te trouble is that it's fraud if I don't actually do it. I guess it's OK until I get investigated........
If I stay locally at my own expense isn't there some kind of flat rate subsistance I can claim?
Just make it as far away from the client site as possible. That way you can claim more money!!
just drive from your original home, forget the flat idea....fu*k it, move further away rent a flat 300miles away.....60pence a mile will have you well sorted!
