Put features in vs leave features out.. looks like either way they can't win!

Here I'm using Debian 5 (lenny) as my main workstation and sometimes at home too but there are some things which require Windows so have a VMWare and Sun xVM with Windows images and a second hard drive with Windows on (but primarily used in the hotel.)

That coincides with a comment I picked up recently, namely that the smart folks are developing on OS X and/or Linux.

Do you mean VS was better before it was _written_ in .NET, or before it _supported_ it?
Anyway I can't see what's bad with .NET. They took Java and fixed the crap things that were in it, the framework is pretty good and ASP.net seems at least as nice as JSP.

Actually, I did find a good feature - you can spy on what the other half is doing / surfing.

Not that I would do that of course.

It is bloated if you're a pic chip developer otherwise its great. Vis Studio was sh1te pre .NET (IMO of course).

In the *cough* years I've been using a PC I have never come across anything unsavoury by accident - or on purpose for that matter!

Bravo. Parental controls should be exercised by parents. And young children should use the PC only in a family environment, i.e. not in their bedroom. Same with TV. If you give them everything in their room, not only will they possibly do things that you don't want, they will not learn to use it responsibly. Worse, by having all the nice things in their private space and not having to share any of it, they risk growing up unable to live with other people (and the compromises that requires) and not even wanting to.

Which reminds me, I should shut the lid of this thing.

I agree. I have to use MS Office a lot. Try using Adobe products (and their non-support for years-old bugs).

Whether or not you think Vista is a turkey (and I do) it doesn't mean everything else from MS is.
