Surprised to see this old post floating back.

I've used the site a bit; no great experiences (although I colleague of mine did find a contract through the site) but equally no horror stories. These days I can't be bothered with it

I'm with you there. When I met somebody who asked me whether being a contractor meant I had to network a lot, and then followed up with " so which website do you use?" I was most bemused.

If I want to keep in touch I pick up the phone or preferably go to visit them - I guess I'm just an old fashoined git.

    linkedin.com

    Just found this post.....
I am being cautious who I am inviting....and am paranoid about leeches. Surely some of my value as a contractor is who I know and respect.
I am always v careful who I recommend.
I have also not deliberately linked to any agencies though others on my network have. I don't like the idea they can see the names of the managers of the companies I have worked for.....I imagine they will be phoning these companies straight away saying "Can I speak to x"

So signed up, actively filled everything in, but have not yet generated or tried to generate any work from it.
    Cheers

It probably does. I don't mind sharing contacts with deserving people, but there's a certain type which really sticks in my craw. You know the sort, like a vampire sucking all the information, knowledge and work out of you with nothing in return, only to forget you the second they think the free meal is finished.

I am tempted to tell friends about the service but I'm not keen to give free contacts to the person who originally invited me (a real leech).

I have been in it for the last 3 years. Have about 8 contacts in there. Never been useful for anything. I guess it's the kind of networking tool that's only of any use if your business depends a lot on your contacts / potential contacts

    started a topic linkedin

    linkedin

    Does anyone use linkedin.com?

I am a member although being naturally suspicious of such things I have never used it, although a former colleague of mine found a contract through an agent using the site, and this morning I spoke to an agent who also uses the site.

Wondered if the esteemed ladies and gentlemen of CUK had any experience of this site.

Working...
