It's just a psychological effect. Lots of places have lots of corporate data centres, but they also have lots of other things to distract you. Swindon doesn't.

If it's the chalk and limestone, maybe there are loads of caves where these corporate data centres can safely squirrel away their backups.

I do remember going down the stairs at the Hilton in Swindon only to be significantly outpaced by the chap going past the window eta carpark floor in 2.5 seconds.

I mean, the place was a bit grim but it wasn't that bad.
