Actually thinking about it, it was a Thistle. Near the customer, and thats about all it had going for it. I had a lovely view of the multistory carpark next door.

Funny project that one, for a fairly well known clientco.

I did 18 months in a datacentre at Swindon. Not too bad though because there were no windows so you could pretend you were somewhere else...

Originally it was an April fools in an in-flight magazines as being a smart idea to move your corporate data centre out of London and into Swindon.

It's just a psychological effect. Lots of places have lots of corporate data centres, but they also have lots of other things to distract you. Swindon doesn't.

Is Swindon in the chalky part of Wiltshire or the cheesy part (from where the saying "different as chalk and cheese" originates)?

If it's the chalk and limestone, maybe there are loads of caves where these corporate data centres can safely squirrel away their backups.
