I'm not bothered by rights to land, as long as it is reasonably fair. Which has never happened anywhere in the world admittedly.

I am more concerned about the humanistic side of things. This is far more important than religion / who has rights to what land. All I want to see is an end to human suffering caused by wars based on ideology.

Yep, old Vespesian and Titus they needed the money as the later Julio Claudian lot spent the treasury. On the arch of Titus in the Forum you can see a relief of the Romans carrying off the treasure from the Temple including that famous candlestick thing. It survived in rome until Alaric the Goth sacked Rome in 410 CE.

Imagine if a descendent of previous owner of your house was badly treated somewhere, not by yourself, and they said "I need to go back to my ancestors house"; the authorities then come around and give them half of it and the best bits to boot!!!

However, that is hindsight. There will never be peace there as there is too much hatred and use of superstition to back up their claims.
