Yeh mate you're right.
Now lets compensate all the soldiers as well, 1st and 2nd world wars etc etc.
Im not saying tough sh1t, what does get my goat is for example the solicitor saying 500k was not enough to cover his client. Bollocks, The truth is no matter of money is enough, but stop looking for someone to blame.
If you want compensation send the bill to Mr Osama Bin Laden care of the Saudi Government.
MF, if some scrote blew himself up in your shop destroying all your stock would you like some help?
If that scrote also blew both your legs off and left you with burns across half your body meaning that you would need months or even years of treatment, would that focus your mind?
What if you turned to your insurers for help and they politely told you to piss off as you were not covered for acts of God or Terrorism (funny how they get grouped together), would that change your point of view?
These people are NOT scroungers, they were simply unlucky. We don't HAVE to help people like them, but I would much rather bung them a few quid of my tax money than most of the people who currently get it.
Helping these people is not the same as giving Swamp Donkey money to cure the asthma her kids have picked up due to her smoking.
Apart from anything else, if we help these people now, we may be able to stop paying for them in the future.
"since people died because of politics, this means that automatically the Govt is responsible for at least making sure those who died or got hurt get compensated."
Hang on hang on a second here Aleski.
I for one voted Tory, so therefore I should not have to pay. Why dont all the labour loving voters pay for it hey?
We are developing a victim culture which will lead us down the same road as the US where people who witness a bus crash jump on so that they have a chance of compensation.
Can't you keep some context here? Not even in the USA, with their sue-for-anything people would agree to be blown up in underground by suicide bomber -- the event was beyond doubt not a setup by any of the victims (apart from suicide bombers) and since people died because of politics, this means that automatically the Govt is responsible for at least making sure those who died or got hurt get compensated.
I agree with Sunnysan as well. I agree that the Government are, to a degree, responsible for the events of 7/7 in as much as they have completely lost control of our immigration policy. I also agree that the events were tragic and totally abhorent. However, I do not agree that the Government (translated as our taxes) should compensate the victims and their families. Criminal compensation is usually extremely low and has little to do with earnings, rather the newworthiness of the event. We are developing a victim culture which will lead us down the same road as the US where people who witness a bus crash jump on so that they have a chance of compensation.
What I want to know is how many hundreds of thousands those brizilians will get for their son getting knocked off!
Some of you need to wake up and smell the coffee, if you were ever injured in such a way that you could no longer work and support yourself you had better hope there is more than just a "charitable fundraiser" going on because at some stage sympathy for someone is gonna stop being newsworthy and thus money will stop coming in to help those affected. But as Red Ken says, the London Underground fund is not there to take over the Governments responsibilities!
The CICB does indeed have rules PRC, but what I am saying is that it should not necessarily only be for Criminal injuries. Remember also that victims of major newsworthy incidents will often benefit from public appeals and I would assume (not sure) that such funds have charitable status and effectively receive taxpayers money. Victims of minor incidents do not.
