No sweetheart, most of the commonwealth comes under the "gave up their rights to citizenship when they declared independance" section.
Your "otherwise" is an irrelevance as this is hypothetical.

Born in Great Britain, or of British parentage excluding those mentioned above!

It realy gets to me that so many people from the old empire now want the benefits of being British after their forebears gave up those rights so long ago.
Why we are still pumping billions a year into countries who threw us out I will never

We seem to be forgetting something in this whole story

    The guy is Australian

Hence he deserves everything he gets. Just thought I'd clarify this for those of you still struggling to come to terms with the complexities of international relations.

Absolutely, but if a guy is entitled to a British passport.......blah blah blah, I said it all before!

Also he MAY be a risk. If there is doubt the safety of UK citizens must always come above the interests of foreign nationals. If it were up top me, I would be deporting those dangerous Islamic radicals regardless of their possible fate in other countries.

They dont need to pass anything if they are entitled!
I think it is the case that any person who is entitled can ask and if they ask they are issued. The passport can then be removed, but I am not sure of those circumstances, but probably restrict movement to within the UK.
The character thing is for foreigners applying to become British. If you or your parents or whatever the criteria is you are "entitled" to a British passport.

    Anybody know better?

Different matter once convicted, and even if they had British passports that is no guarantee of reduction in sentence as shown not so long ago.
