    The other year I couldn't get on to Slashdot. Doing a traceroute, I discovered an ISP somewhere in the US (might have been Chicago?) had let five of its routers get into a forwarding cycle - the packets were just going round and round the loop in that datacentre until their TTL expired, when they were dropped

    As a result, I couldn't get to any servers on the west coast of the US. It sorted itself out after a few minutes.

    Could have been something like that causing DP's problem?

    in command line type ipconfig /displaydns

    If Google comes back with some weird ip addresses, try

    ipconfig /flushdns

    And try google again.
