I thought HAB lived in East London somewhere. Whitechapel ISTR.

Didn't he say he was also based in New York?

    Restaurants

Casa Don Carlos is a superb authentic tapas bar in The Lanes - no mass produced rubbish. The China Garden does excellent Dim Sum and Chinese Seafood. The Gingerman at Drakes is a top class restaurant (stupid name) as is the Hotel Du Vin.

I personally think a major consideration re Brighton is whether you have a car or not and where exactly your place of work is.

The bars north of the South Downs are safer!

    Where are you working?

Travelodge opposite preston park is a pretty good bet for being close enough to town for work and has the bonus of a car park. Something you'll be hard pushed to find in town.

Avoid anywhere on West Street as you won't get any peace and quiet any night of the week.

Steer clear of any place that calls themselves a boutique hotel, and avoid any hotel on the seafront like the plague.

I did notice that there appeared to be an inordinate amount of middle aged and elderly men walking little poodles and other lapdogs along the prom
