I wrote a really long diatribe giving all the pros and cons of my three suggestions, but for some reason something in interweb decided to send my post to /dev/null.

    1) Aston Martin Shooting Brake
    2) Mazda 6 AWD 2.3
    3) Ceverlot Hi ho lander

Wi' 2 being my current favourite.

Not old enough for MOT? Sorry, I should have said CHEAP VANS Sub 3k and even stretching to that would kill me. Not because I haven't got £3k but because I hate spending money as a matter of religious principal.

Nah, that's a load of sensationalist nonsense put about by that tabloid hack Dio Cassius. Crassus was killed in a scuffle with Surena and some of his men when the Roman prisoners refused to let him be released unaccompanied.

Amazing how often the laws on all sorts of things are almost exactly the same in all major countries. If this is not proof of a giant global conspiracy I don't know what is.

PS Two pages and not a single sensible reply about vans. Just as i said, I have not read any of them.

    MOT in US

AtW just a quick note: they DO have MOT's in the US - they are called "State Inspections" and, like here, the kick in once a car is 3 years old (that may vary from state to state).

The debatable thing in the US is whether they are worth it. The standard is not as high as here and there is a much higher percentage of cars that haven't had one.

[trivia attack: Did you know General Lucius Lucullus was a fanatical gardener, and among other things introduced the first cherries and apricots into Europe?]

The only available alternative is what they do in the USA -- no MOTs whatsoever.

That may be their purpose, and a very laudable purpose it is too, but do MOTs fulfill that purpose? I'm not so sure they do.

But do they? All it does is warrant the motor was safe the day the guy looked at it (assuming he even did, which in many cases I doubt). Nothing to stop it fooking up during the next 364 days.

Maybe I'm cynical, but after what Crassus did to me, are you surprised?
