It's definitely up there with the greats, also his "copus Christi Carol" is sublime.Originally posted by Diestl View PostIs it the best piece of music ever recorded? Or have I had one too many?
This mortal coils' cover of Jeffs dads "song to the siren" is otherworldly too.
One last one for intoxicated appreciation; Bushs' "Glycerine".
Gotta agree with Churchy on the Elgar call though, wonderful piece.

Had one too many or emotionally unbalanced. I just listened to it and thought it was carp. HTH.Originally posted by Diestl View PostIs it the best piece of music ever recorded? Or have I had one too many?
Off-topic, does anyone know the name of the song played in the all-spice adverts of yore? I think there were crashing waves, and it may been the theme tune in the exorcist?

Personally I don't think you can beat elgar's "Nimrod"(Variation 9) Stirring stuff indeed!

Personally I love the Rufus (non Shrek) version..
It rips my heart out if I'm in the right mood....

naw .. Halleluyah is one of the most haunting songs ever ..(not best) ... simply because it is one of the few real world examples of real 'White Soul music'.
Mick Hucknell from Simply Red can go get stuffed in comparison and so can Duffy for that matter (oooer missus !)

Nope, just enquiring.Originally posted by Diestl View PostNo but you quoted me then replied I though you meant there was a better version, or that I was under the impression that Jeff Buckley wrote the song.
