Let us know when the calls turn into a contract and you've actually started it.
Maybe we should have an activity icon that we set to either "Not Looking", "Benched" or "In Contract" so we can see just how many of us are actually 'in work' at any particular time. With a days counter for those on the bench. We could get some useful stats from that. Not sure this forum's software allows something so useful to be added though.

Remember, no matter how bad it gets, it can't be as bad as having to settle for a permie job paying 30k if you're lucky. Just checked jobserve, IT permiedom will soon be paying minimum wage.
Sod that, I'd rather live in a cardboard box eating old kebabs. Goodie, goodie goodie yum yum.

Quant job, not really IT. They're better paid if you're experienced.

What's it like in Switzerland or Germany?Originally posted by BlasterBates View PostWhat's it like out there in the UK.
I get the impression it aint too bad.
Do you really this is a good time to go back to the UK? I'd rather wait until things pick up so you'll be able to get a better rate/salary. Once you have accepted a low rate/salary is not so easy to raise once the upturn comes. I'd rather be happier with the unemployment benefits in CH.

Anyway - it's not too bad depending on your skillset but alot are holding out and have frozen spend probably till end of Jan / April - I certainly don't envisage the dot.com bust for the IT industry.....as before - just clients being more picky thinking that they can get better people

My local market does a great pork and apple burger on a saturday morning. There's also a good French market twice a week with an excellent cheese selection.Originally posted by BlasterBates View PostWhat's it like out there in the UK.
