Yep, now here in the Netherlands there are beautiful places to live in the east of the country where you can have a nice big semi-detached house and a good sized garden for 250 to 300k euros in a friendly village. If you go to the deeply religious villages you can get the same thing for 50 to 100k less, but if you’re not the right denomination of heavily puritan protestant they won’t exactly make you feel welcome. I live in a mostly catholic village and have no problems, but the prices reflect the fact that the locals are fairly easy going.
People shouldn’t underestimate the conservatism of rural areas anywhere in Europe, and I don’t mean ‘Call me Dave’ conservatism; I mean religious conservatism and inbreeding.

You need to fit in.Originally posted by Bob Dalek View PostThe hinterlands near Cambridge are particularly bad for that sort of thing. I went Cambridge and a bloke introduced me to his wife and daughter.
Trouble was, there was only one woman stood next to him.

Ah; that might be the catch; lots of inbred skinheads in the local.

Must be !Originally posted by DimPrawn View PostNot noticed much happening in terms of price drops. Seeing more property Under Offer now too. I guess the tax-payers money thrown at banks is filtering down to bonuses again.
A neighbour had sold his pad ( on at 800K ) to retire overseas but the buyer pulled out last week a day before completion, he didn't look happy.

I just noticed quite a few sizeable reductions in my neck of the woods post the recent economic panics. Also the rare higher end Under Offers have come back onto the market.

Mansions: too costly. Council Tax, labour costs, Grade 1 or 2 issues. That's my excuse, anyway!Originally posted by rootsnall View PostHave you checked your mansion prices this week ?

Google French property prices. Central France seems to have stopped putting up prices in 1920.Originally posted by BlasterBates View Posthmm saw a programme about cheap houses in Germany, not East-Germany by the way.
I was rather astounded that houses were for sale as little as EUR 10,000 in villages around Munich so I did a search for houses less than EUR 30,000 in Hessen, a small county surrounding Frankfurt and found 3 pages of houses for sale. The cheapest was EUR 5000, though needed a bit of work.
Cheap houses in Germany
They reckon it'll get cheaper as well
