I actually did turn down a contract once because of ethical concerns. The company in question could be described as a glorified loan shark, a quick google of "XXXX sucks" retrieved too many pages with too many ugly stories for my liking.
That said I was working at the time, it was only a short contract and it was a commute. If I had of been on the bench it would have been a no-brainer.

Then an agent phones offering a contract on the government project to build the big new national database of e-mails, phone calls and internet visits.
Would you do it?
(PS I think it's a huge waste of money that will be no use at all at achiving it's stated aim - i.e crime reduction)

Conscience? I did google it, but still don't get it...
Yep I'd take the job if the rate was (al)right.

Yes you would get more in benefits than what you are currently getting as a telephone-answering first line support monkey.
Well done.

I don't really have a big hangup about all that stuff being recorded anyway so yes, I'll work on it.

Take the money, it's not going to make a sod of difference anyway, and there aren't going to be the tools available to do any meaningful searches to find anything useful in there.
And if you don't want it, send it my way

they're paying right? assuming so, i'd take it. Over the next few years it will not matter what or where you've worked, it's simply a case of get through the looming dark days.
