Previously on "watch out (private) dentists, you're next"
I'm not looking for a dentist that only does NHS work, and no private work; just a dentist that will do examinations and treatment on the NHS. Sorry about this but I pay all my taxes fairly and I'd like a bit of fair treatemt in return.
Dentist's have always been' private' and contacted to the NHS - unlike GP's they do not get assistance with premises, staff etc. Unfortunately, like most of us they can get a better rate elsewhere.
The NHS should provide NHS clinics - there will be plenty of dentists who would work for a salary and we would all be better for all of us.
I still can not beleive in some areas dentists will n0t treat children on the NHS, this is what happened to me but managed to find a great dentist who still takes on NHS patients.
So remember - Dentist's are just glorified Contractors - now that is scary!

Effen Jocks.
PS Im on the look for a good NHS Dentist myself - theres not a lot of Effen Dentists - but if you find a good one - let me know !
You just went to a bad dentist. Most "NHS dentists" have more private work e.g. mine does NHS 1 day per week. There are no NHS only dentists outside of hospital depts AFAIK But in true CUK style have a free blame it on the state on me.

10 points deducted, I'm afraid. That takes you to the bottom of our "Can't Punctuate for Toffee" league. Lose two more points and it's a public beheading, I'm afraid; CUK Sharia Law, you understand.
Yawn, Fart, Yawn... then another concurrent Fart and Yawn!!

Went to an NHS dentist about 6 weeks ago: utterly dire. Just thought I'd share that.

If you can't find a dentist, ring NHS direct who can tell you who is taking on in your area.
I think there is some truth in that article, even a filling seems to require 3 visits these days.
I did, with the result that I described: they sent me to a dentist who is taking on NHS patients - but who will not do most of the treatment on the NHS, only the examinations. Bizarrely, NHS Direct classify that as "taking on new NHS patients". I really need "taking on new NHS patients, and treating them on the NHS", and NHS Direct cannot tell me which dentists might do that.
Allowing the sale of DIY dentistry kits would be a better bet. Dentists are overpriced for what they do, even in the NHS IMO. How hard can it be to drill a hole and fill it with one of the most toxic elements know to man (Mercury).
About bloody time. I can't find an NHS dentist anywhere. Oh some get listed as NHS, but in practice this is only for examinations. Any treatment needed as a result, is private only. Is that a racket or what?
