[QUOTE=GiGo
He gave the example of LogicaCMG, a British-Dutch information technology company, which recently won a contract to build Real Time Gross Settlement systems for India's central bank. Several years ago, LogicaCMG shifted some of its work to Bangalore, India's technology hub, where it now employs nearly 2,000 engineers. Johnson argued the company would not have won the central bank deal without its base in Bangalore.[/QUOTE]
From personal experience; as UK-based companies are forced to compete with Offshore companies there are pressures on how much UK-based staff can be paid because of the difference between UK & Indian wages. And we are currently being told at the forementioned company "we need to keep our staff affordable because of increasing competition"
Roughly equates to "you get nothing, management get everything" and company gets 48% increase in profits

That's Animal Farm - not the pervy version!
Outsourcing can have its benefits. On the recent Bank Holiday I had to call AOL to report a fault. Twice I got routed to India and spoke to two very helpful people who were tatally unable to help me with the problem but managed to spin the whole process out for over an hour. Had this call centre not been outsourced then no doubt I would have probably been routed through to Scotland, Wales or Goerdie Land where the call centre staff would no doubt be equally unable to help me but harder to understand.

Not saying I necessarily agree with that, and even if true it may give only a temporary advantage but later cause even more problems on account of indigenous skill losses etc.

Guess I just have to come to terms with the fact that I have ginger tendencies.

Indian company creates 600 UK jobs
Outsourcing goes full circle
Indian technology company HCL has outsourced 600 contact centre jobs to Belfast with the support of a £4.68m grant from Invest Northern Ireland, the region's economic development organisation.
The deal was announced early this morning by the prime minister, who is currently visiting India. He said that the UK could be an important base for Asian companies wanting to expand their business into the EU.
Shiv Nadar, chairman and CEO HCL Technologies, said that his company had initially invested in Northern Ireland through a partnership with BT. He described that move as "an act of faith".
HCL is one of the top ten private employers in Northern Ireland, with a staff of nearly 2,000 people. The majority (1,720) are based in Belfast with 220 more in Armagh. ®

Think of these like factory workers in a woolen mill the day before the industrial revolution brought in machinery. The out sourcing companies are just the latest Industrial Revolution - progress!
