Yeah, there was OO COBOL too. They miss the point. COBOL is a plodder that makes it hard to do any algorithms deeper than "Add, Subtract, and Print Like Hell", but (perhaps because of that) looks after your data. That's why it's still around.

I'm an old-timer dreaming of retirement but unfortunately I have to keep pedalling so far

It's my plan B though. There is supposed to come a time when I can't afford to retire yet, but the saving is done and I just need current income, not as high as at present. Then I'll take COBOL, which should give me more choice of location. And I'm sure it will still be in use.

Not touched any of it since 2000. The last client I knew running Pick switched to Win/Sql around then too.
