I assume the client is a relatively small company? They have the flexibility and common-sense attitude to do something unusual like this.Originally posted by scooterscot View PostI spent some time detailing my idea / solution with the sales personnel and to my surprise they were quite positive. I have the opposite problem, currently working for a large US-owned aerospace corporation in which rigid policies and bureaucratic intransigence are becoming the norm. I'll be glad to move on.

I like to think so - the client and I were both aware of the problem existing after some conversation i.e. the requirement to provide a resource as a project dictates - yet I did not come here to discuss potential contract opportunities, it was not even on the agenda!Originally posted by Kess View PostWas this the result of your negotiating skills (in which case some tips would be appreciated

I spent some time detailing my idea / solution with the sales personnel and to my surprise they were quite positive. Then I got the opportunity to talk over my plan with the MD his response: Let's iron out the T&C's and get a contract signed - so I started drafting last week.
I pushed the plan in a persistent fashion to the point of not wanting to become annoying yet I was delighted when hearing they were actually very pro-active towards the idea of off-loading the work in my direction.
My own fears played a large part in thinking 'you can't do this' 'negative thoughts' - today I proved fear is not justified and if you don't ask you don't get.
I still cannot believe I've secured it though typically the projects run into six figured sums.
My advice would be: don't doubt yourself and always be proactive
