I've been in Texas all week, half of the locals simply DO NOT understand if I speak in my normal unaccented British English. I have to either (a) slow it down to the point of comedy, or (b) fake a mild American accent which makes me sound like a sub-par version of Hugh Laurie in House. Highly irritating.Originally posted by Gonzo View PostI find that whenever I am talking to someone with a strong accent, involunatarily I start talking with the same intonation and metre as they use.

Well, I have some sympathy.
I find that whenever I am talking to someone with a strong accent, involunatarily I start talking with the same intonation and metre as they use.
They usually think that I am taking the piss out of them.
Note: I haven't watched the whole clip so don't know if he was just being a noddy.
