Haha no its not, its for fitness. I just want to do something interesting, not run on a treadmill or kick a ball about. If it's purely for self defence, I would question your lifestyle.

The first lesson in self-defence is to never put yourself in a position where you're required to use the other 99 lessons.Originally posted by NetwkSupport View Posti've read up about it, sounds perfect. I have done karate to brown belt but never really got a lot out of it as i felt it was too rigid. Krav maga seems not only to be good for overall fitness but teaches you to be hard as nails in a bad situation.
Are the techniques learned actually useable in real life??? (in a defense situation obviously).
I did karate for years but apart from being good for fitness it would be useless in a real self defense situation...
Krav Maga does instill confidence but it also reminds you of your limitations.
If it's purely for self defence, I would question your lifestyle.

Hey NetwSupport,
I did a bit of Jap-Slappin in my younger days.
Krav Maga is a grown up (i'm even loathe to call it...) martial art. Most clubs play by big boy rules and use full body pads to practice full contact combat. Often in the dark with distractions such as loud music, smoke, more than one attacker etc.
The idea being that it conditions you to appreciate the way real fights usually play out. Plenty of grappling and striking and running away.
History of it comes from Hungary (i think) and was adopted widely by Israeli forces and subsequently taught to a lot of teeth arm forces around the globe.
Proper nasty stuff and not for everyone - No walts need apply.
Cheers.

Neutralise your attacker as fast as possible
Go from defending to attacking as quickly as possible
Use the body's natural reflexes
Strike at any vulnerable point
Use any tool or object available to you
Sweeeeeet.
