It's probably better to just eat fresh fruit and veg and be nice to people, rather than strutting around the office like prima donna pontificating about a bit of paganistic bollocks and making people suffer with your stinky breath.
A colleague of mine fasts regularly, for religious reasons: and, when fasting, is constantly tired and does f--k all work, complaining of, er, hunger and tiredness. It's another ray of sunshine in my day to be working my Dalek botty off whilst listening to said colleague harp on about it all.
Heroically, my colleague finds inner strength from somewhere to chat to friends and download i pod tunes in between moaning, yawning and doing nowt worthwhile.
All very laudable, but why do you have to be told when to do those things? Why not build them into your weekly regime?
Actually I do, after completing Ramadan last year, I kept the good habits, and fasted almos every weekend for all winter, I only stopped mid/end of June.... I am hoping to continue this habit again when I complete this month's fast.
But if you asking in general why Muslims have to do it during a specific month, then I suppose its a community thing dunno....
I tell ya, in this new contract there are at least 4 of us fasting, and it feels so good to have others doing it with me.
Anyway, got to go back to work, don't want to start arguing here, whole point of fasting is to avoid arguing etc...
If you have to ask whether you should do anything you really should do (in religious terms) then you really don't want to do it - you're just looking for an excuse not to do it.
