Not helping, nor a family or friend, but she is dead after taking 'harmless non addictive class A drugs'. Amy Winehouse takes hard drugs because it goes with the scene these days. Pick up any music magazine and some knob head will be bragging about their Heroin habit.
... I can introduce you to someone who's life is well and truely fliped up due to harmless drugs. Due to my advice she is now starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

My memory must be going.
AW might have started taking them for that reason, I doubt this is why she continues.
I seem to remember you posting about a girl with a drug problem you were helping, were you lying or do you think she is 'stupid'.

I have been aware of her for a few years now, went to see a few perfomances back in 2004/5, and yes she can sing. She has a cracking voice and writes good songs. The problem with her live performances are rather inconsistent, sometimes she can blow you away but others she is embarrassing to watch, usually after she has had a few cheeky sherbets, which is often!
I still maintain that she has the means to get herself out of this. She will have people around her, more so than some young kid who is prostituting herself to fund her addiction. While I have every sympathy for the poor sod who has little no means to get help, I don't for somebody who could check themself into the priory to get clean. In all cases until the addict wants to change then there is little anybody can do. The fact is, AW will have more support than your typical drug addict - people with a vested interest in her surviving to keep the money rolling in.
The means but not the will.
Part of addiction, by it's very nature, means you don't think you need help...
In rehab there were mainly two kinds of people, those who had totally crap lives (abused by parents etc etc) and those who had everything and a seemingly charmed existence.

On the other hand it's support that got her into the mess she is in. What she needs is to learn to look after herself. Stick her on a desert island for a couple of months and if she survives that she'll be cured. Or will have smoked all the banana leaves.

I don't think I would worry if I had children, their understanding of what is going on/wrong with her would be my responsibility, and they would make their own choices. The condemnation of 'hopeless addicts' is what paralyses society and what gives the media such power.
Didn't Marilyn Manson say 'If you don't parent your children I will'
I don't know if he did say that - but it's a good quote, and a good point.
Fashion or fun may have been why she started (and there is a lot of argument about why certain people are drawn to substance/process addiction in the first places), I don't think that is why she continues.
TBH I couldn't really care less to quote Bill Hicks "Rejoice, the world just got lighter, another moron has died"
