Talking of lubing trunnions, I've got the maintenance chart on the garage wall for my Dad's first car, a 1948 Standard 12. There are eight nipples on the front suspension that need greasing every fifty miles, and the longest service interval is 5000 miles when you're supposed to change the gearbox oil

So remember folks... always grease the trunions on yer Morris 1000... you know it makes sense.
Do Minors go around corners any other way?
And don't forget to double declutch from 2nd to 1st.

Turns out it was 50% fibreglass, had full-race suspension and brakes and a Broadspeed 1800cc engine in it. It could do 160.
Also, in the early days of saloon car racing, Graham Hill held a lap record at Brands that was faster than the stated top speed of the "standard" car he was driving (an A35, I think it was)
I also drove one once with a 2-litre Fiat 16-valve motor. That was interesting, especially on the standard brakes and tyres...I don't fancy the 2lt Fiat, not with std brakes, those drums barely stop a 1098 'A' series.
