What I would say is Mr Average Contractor is certainly financially better off in the UK than in Oz.

Might be much of a muchness for me if the offer is as good as I think it is.

However for a change of scene why not give it whirl and see for yourself !?

Slave I adore Melbourne, esp. Toorak/Sth Yarra, house prices are slightly better than Sydney, but I've never lived there.

Melbourne is cosmopolitan and much more european than Sydney, I really enjoy it every time I go, sorry I can't be more helpful.

I've worked there for a few months a couple of times. Pleasant enough but never really did it for me in comparison to Sydney when I was young free and single. I'd say it's about as expensive as non London UK. The rates generally aren't up to much unless you are pretty specialised but the the contract market isn't bad as quite a few of the big Co's are HQ'ed in Melb rather than Sydney.

Its fooking freezing. I was there 2 xmas ago for the ashes. Xmas day, 4 degrees and raining (compared to 12 degrees and sunshine back in england). Hardly the bbq on the beach I had been sold!

That said, if you like vietamese noodle soup, theres a cracking place in town for that. Bill clinton had 2 bowls.

Been there on holiday 3 times, it's my favourite city on the planet and my intended destination when I emigrate.
