I plan on this being my last contract.

It must have taken you quite a while to add all of those days up.

I can canned 2 days after being told they wanted an extension.

I now feel like I've done the whole Contractor thing:
    1. Jumped shipped with no job offer
    2. Sat on the bench staring at a depeleting bank account
    3. Met some 'lovely' agents
    4. Had a few interviews
    5. Got a job
    6. Got an extension offer
    7. Neg'd a rate increase
    8. Got cut

    Whooo

50 working days left, 72 including weekends and Bank Holidays.

I'm still wondering if the client being taken over will affect the likelihood of an extension... it would have been a dead cert under the current management, but who knows what the new owners' strategy will be

I have 1 month till contract end , do nothing to please noone , asked for 10 percent increase or else I threatened to leave . I am not scared of staying 3 months out of work since I could do some biz planning .. but then I ain't got wife or mortgage.

I don't envy your dentist either (s/he'll be private of course)

There must be a point where it's more financially beneficial to be in a permie job than to wait months between contracts.

Fortunately most of my contracts have been so long I can easily change my CV to look like I've been a permie all along, should the worst happen. Though they probably bother to check references for permies, which may be a problem.

Anyway, not giving up yet. Got plenty of junk to sell on the car boot if I get really bored and skint.
