    They already do. Some of those 6 MPs who have published their expense claims had about 5 grands worth of food listed.

    At least next time I claim for rented accommodation away from home I know I can claim for the TV licence, professional cleaning, and other costs associated with the place, alongside the rent, council tax, and leccy/gas that I usually claim for.

    At least part of our food is tax free, namely oxygen, of which we get through about 3/4 Kg a day (260 Kg/year), so he could tax us on that too. But don't hold your breath.

    I'm waiting for the day when NL decide that all food is a luxury (it already is for those OAP's who have to severely ration their use of electric and gas in their homes). Then we'll get MP's claiming for food as a necessary expense.

    This could be a can of worms cake. I can see opportunists rebranding their products as cakes to claim back VAT.

    e.g. the Apple iCake.
