Spot on there! When I first took a car over to Denmark I parked up and all of a sudden loads of youngsters appeared like from nowhere. I was, like, sheet gotta get the car out of here sharpish, when the kids started asking questions like what do I do, what did I study hardest at school, stuff like that. Freaked me out for a moment 'coz knee-jerk reaction was they were taking the p1ss.

But they weren't, they appreciated a car like that takes an awful lot of work over an extended period, quite an eye-opener for what the UK had become I can tell you.

Agree - quite a difference cross the waters. I love driving in Europe - even in Romania mixing it with loonies leaning out of customised trabants.

Been quite lucky with this TVR - only broke down once when the clutch plate disintegrated in the New Forest and when I left my lights on. Did fail the MOT this year as the handbrake needed adjusting and a blub had gone although I no longer use it everyday for work like I did many years ago.

The Griff was far more unreliable - always overheating, various electrical problems and buttons kept popping off. Made a nice noise in tunnels though - can't beat a 5.0 litre V8 pumping 320bhp through a de-baffled sports exhaust. Woof woof!

ford ka. runabout for shopping. 02 reg bought 3 years ago (when just out of manuf warranty) with 6k miles on clock.
3 MOT's passed without fault. Bought 2 new tyres and a new windscreen wiper blade.
It's like a go-cart so I can service it myself.
bought for just under 4k, now worth just under 2k.
Wife was recently thinking about getting shut for a C180 Kompressor, until I politely explained this would be an anchor around our necks.
We'll probably buy a feista for the bigger boot.

I've got a one owner 1992 325i with 80K on the clock that I use during the week. Old BMWs are highly recommended - enough comfort and power for long distances too and if looked after are very reliable - even with high mileages. The older ones have less electronics as well which is also a good thing.

I'm afraid I'll have to shoot this one down..... My 1997 728i with 80K on the clock gave it up three weeks ago without warning. When I say no expense spared to keep it maintained I mean it. I suppose I was just unlucky but I'm starting to think this Bimmers are unburstable nonsense is just that. Loved the car, most comfortable I've ever had was very sad to see it trailered away early Saturday morning

If I do drive a car to the clients, I have one specially for the task, looks like <10000, but drives >100000.

I had one like that until 3 weeks ago when it blew up

£1,200 to fix no thanks..... sold on e-bay for £750.00 and yes I sold it as spares or repairs.

I'm currently being forced to do bangernomics and it's Phish quite frankly! only 2 more weeks to go (hopefully) then its into my new Fiat 500 sport and the Boxster will be back from the bodyshop owing to a mishap (basically caused by giving the keys to ma burd )

When I had a Lotus about 8 years ago, I remember a kid asking me if I was a footballer. I said "no, computer geek, so if you can't kick a ball you'd better make sure you go to school". The look on his face.

Plus it puts those bastards at the AA in their place. Charge a flat fee for membership no matter what the car will they? Don't they know it's a TVR? Don't they know it'll break down more often than it needs petrol?

True. When I had the Cerbera I think I had to call the AA out 3 times in the year I had it, and those were the times where I couldn't get it to a repairer under it's own steam.

They do get a bit reluctant if you call them with the same problem two or more times as they expect you to have rectified it.

I suppose those of us with reliable cars are subsidising those with less reliable ones, just like any insurance.

...and if one thing has changed over the 6 years since buying is that in Europe, the kids are polite and ask for permission to take photos of it, the chav scum in England just scream "rev it rev it rev it" while the champers marxists just turn their noses up at it, where 6 years ago I got smiles, photos and conversation.
