I am not too concerned about this ruling either way, although I would tend to agree that it has certain plus points to it. What concerns me more about JDW's is this ridiculous obsession they have with selling cheap coffee. It results in the places being brimfull of flocks of slow-moving aged wrinklies blocking the route to the bar and causing all of the bar staff to form their own queue behind the bar as they wait to get to the coffee machines.
FFS, if you want to drink coffee go to a fooking cafe, not a pub!!

Wetherspoons advertise being child friendly up until 8pm (ot thereabouts). They have family dining areas, childrens menus and colouring stuff etc. I take my kids to my local one regularly for breakfast at the weekends.

How they can then turn round and say they are uncomfortable with children on the premises is beyond me...

I was once refused entry to a Wetherspoons down in Torquay as I was wearing an Italian football shirt, I was with my then girlfriend on sunny Sunday afternoon and the pub was dead but the barman said 'no football colours allowed'... I can understand it if I was wearing a Celtic top on the wrong side of Glasgow but FFS where's the common sense?

Slightly hypocritical of Weatherspoons to try to curtail kids on their premeses, they're more than happy to serve drinks to 16 year olds on a Friday and Saturday night!

Kids at pub lunches, absolutely fine. Kids in the pub up to certain hour (6pm i reckon) and with responsible parents not getting bladdered and keeping them under control, absolutely fine.

But the reality is the child friendly policy is often abused and patrons use the pub as a mock creche.

Kids should be allowed in all pubs that serve food, for as long as it serves food. Its just common sense. That should also be the basis for the rules regarding smoking.


However - those on this board who take their kids into Wetherspoons for a weekly treat need immediately shooting with tulip. How pikey?!!! Surely your kids deserve a nicer pub experience than this?!

I spent many an hour in pubs when I was a nipper and i never did me any harm!!!

TBH I think this is stupid. I will occasionally go out with the missus and kids for a pub lunch and our little boy will sometimes quite happily sit there for 1 - 2 hours slowly picking at his food while he watches everything going on excitedly. Why should I be refused more than a couple of bevvies when the missus is driving and everyone is quite happy?

Its not that I think kids should be in pubs all hours, it's the fact they have introduced a rule and the reasons they give... so if my wife has 2 halves in 30 minutes that’s your lot?? It just seems a bit heavy handed to me.

I don't see an issue with having kids in pubs, up to a certain time anyway and within reason. If it's an issue with them being annoying then why stop at kids - pubs are/can be full of extremely irritating people who by this logic should be barred.

in total agreement with it, pubs should be a refuge, last thing you want is screaming kids running round the place.
and as for parents wanting to get pissed up in front of their kids I wouldn't even do it in front of my nephews, or at least not untill they're old enough to drink themselves
