    Bad Joke

As someone said. Nothing more, nothing less. Not directed at the person, but at the incompetency of the hospital.
Unlike some of the pious posters that joined in, I thought Jog On has been very courageous and dignified throughout the experience - to whom I would like to add my condolences and apologies for any offence I may have caused. To the few that resorted in insults, take a pop instead at the incompetent hospital and fire service (based at Kings Road - round the corner) that let this happen.

I'm sorry to hear about your news, JogOn, and the circumstances surrounding your mother's experiences, whilst at the Royal Marsden.

My best friend recently lost his father just before Christmas. Before he died, very suddenly one night in his sleep, he was suffering from a terminal illness and severe memory problems like Alzheimers and it looked like he could deteriorate further for quite some time. My friends mother was finding it hard to cope as well because her husband was being cared for at home.

After he died, my friend also felt a sense of relief that he didn't suffer any longer. He told me that his father always feared dying and couldn't bear hospitals. Luckily he was saved from this torment.

Sorry to hear all that Jog. My mother in law was also treated at the Marsden last year - its a first rate hospital.

I don't think that's quite fair. It was in bad taste, true. But humour is often an appropriate relief in dark circumstances and you have to admit there is a certain black, very bitter, humour to the situation.

Anyway, let me add my condolences.

Thanks again for the kind words. It had got to the stage where it was horrible watching her suffer so much.

She passed away just before 5 PM so at least she isn't suffering any more. Just got home with Mrs. Jog nd she's on the phone to family starting to sort out practicalities now so I'm just going to be here I suppose. Not going to work tomorrow - they're being quite cool about it.

Now I’ve just found out that the hospital she is in is now on fire – she’s been evacuated with all the other patients to another one – completely oblivious to the situation. Is there any more that can happen with this situation? Maybe the ground will open up and swallow the hospital she’s been evacuated to…
    That's terrible. Poor woman.

Do the best you can for her (and your girly). It's a sad time, but I always thought of someone passing as them going back to their real home. It's something you shouldn't ever be afraid of.

Best wishes to you all anyway.

It may not be much help right now, but after looking after a member of family very close to me from when she was first diagnosed, until the end, it was actually a relief to see her go in some ways because she was no longer suffering.
