    There is a saying that sums up the situation.

    "You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear".

    The banks have made billions on the back of bad investments. People have become rich in the process. Now the truth has come out. They were sold a pup and a half.

    Someones got to pay back the billions. Hint, it won't be the banks that suffer.
