The best thing is that you can be as rubbish a programmer as you like now. As long as you don't surf the grumble-sites, the client will think you're great.

My Mum worked in an office where somebody had downloaded and then printed out some kiddie porn. Unfortunately for him something went wrong with a print job, and it ended up printing out the next morning when the IT guy had fixed it.
Needless to say he was instantly out the door and reported to the police. He was a 40-something who still lived with his mother; nuff said.

Yeh, I would have thought any major hardcore would be sackable. Or might just be harmless gay necrophile chimpanzee scat movies. Who hasn't got a bit of that on their computer?

I've been making pots of money from kiddie porn
When my previous contract was due to end a couple of weeks ago, I was resigned to spending at least a couple of months on the bench over Christmas.
But at the last minute I bagged a perl contract, two weeks at first but now extended to six months. It turned out that the client's two long-serving perl programmers, and the mainstays of the company's IT dept, had been sacked on the spot the previous week for being caught with highly dodgy porn on their company laptops, leaving nobody who knew the perl code or even perl itself.
Apparently the porn was "about as bad as it gets", although no one seemed to know what, or if they did weren't admitting it. So I'm only guessing it was kiddie stuff, but what else would prompt instant sackings these days unless it's a matter of principle with any porn being found?Tags: None
