1 - I took the front off the light switches on a wall they replastered. I can see the old wall paper underneath, meaning that they have plastered onto the old wall paper. Presumably this means that when the paste holding that paper on gives up, so the plaster will fall off the wall.

2 - We had a utility room built. The door frame he put in is falling to bits. There are huge gaps in it, too big to fill with wood filler etc.

3 - He laid a floor which cracked. We got him back to relay it. It now has a significant slope in it in one corner of the room.

Does anybody know how to handle things like this. This guy was recommended by the company we bought the kitchen from and was supposed to have a really good reputation. The electrician who we had on the job who has worked with this guy for years was shocked at the quality of the job he had done on our kitchen.

I'm not happy as this has cost about £20k and is full of niggling little faults.

You need a hungry keen Eastern European fresh off the boat. I've noticed some of the more established Poles are quickly picking up the crappy British habit of Bodgit, Scarper and Run.

We had two Polish plumbers. They worked hard.

Sadly they used all the wrong guage pipes and the work failed the building inspection, and so they had to come back, rip it all out and start again.

Polish plumbers meet Polish building standards, they certainly know f-all about UK regs.

I'm going to be calling him later today and I'm going to be speaking to the kitchen company who reccomended him.

The 20k is a lot for it, but it is big and there was a significant amount of building work which had to be done due to the removal of an internal wall and an arch. Both of which needed steel put in.

This all started when my wife had her kidney transplant and we had stressed how important it was to keep the dirt down. We had asked that they seal off the rest of the house, which they agreed to but didn't actually do. The fact that after her op, dirt could actually kill her seemed to be a concept they couldn't grasp.
