New dev gets canned or put on hold... all of a sudden IT depts decide to keep polishing their old turds - the old skills will be in demand, C++ becomes the new COBOL - rates for quality experienced C++ developers go through roof....

Well I finish a contract a couple of weeks ago. I am pessimistic about it all for the rest of the year. In the city where I usually work I hear that hiring freezes are all the range. On the other hand there is always someone or company that suddenly needs a requirement ... So I dont really know whether to be confidently happy or sad at this point.

Do any of you think that the "sub-prime" crisis thing in the USA will eventually bury the whole UK/EURO economy?
