The OS comes with a full free development environment. All the Unix stuff plus Apple's Xcode tools.

Do you mean a sandboxed area of the OS for testing stuff? TBH I've no idea as that's not what I do.Originally posted by Churchill View PostI used to write software for the Mac - back when it had a 680x0.
Ok, assuming I buy a Mac, does the OS now come with a development environment so I can at least justify its great expense?
It comes with Apache if you want to test webby stuff, and you can run VMware or Parallels if you need to test/work in a windows environment.
They're also not that expensive compared to a similar spec Win machine.

Is that better?

I was considering asking a mate who travels to the US a lot to get one - is it a problem re service/support? I understand they have to open the packaging for some reason - to show it's not a gift I suppose. Bit of a risk with baggage handling...
Will follow that up - cheers.Originally posted by interested View PostApple also do corporate discounts so find someone who can get you one. I got about 15% off my MBP.

If you have a child, I think you can get education discounts.
Or you can buy refurbs from their web-shop.
