No, as in short for Sodomite. One who commits sodomy, or may refer to the old testament and the population of Sodom, which was destroyed by God because of the sinful ways of its inhabitants.

    No, I was not Chico.

I'm not being nice to Bagpuss - I'd rather be banned.

But I will try and not swear anymore, kill me as it might.

I know, is funny on The IT Crowd" on channel 4 too but on a forum for contractors when someone is asking a fairly cool question then that response just makes the board look like it is inhabited by fools.

But someone with a serious tech question being asked "Have you turned it off and on again" is just rubbish. An absolute waste of pixels.
I got a good telling off for that, and yet, when I call support in IT, they seem to think it is the ultimate in techy wisdom!

    So unfair!

Some of the gents on the board are obviously of the sysadmin geek variety as get so excited around those purporting to be female that they show off like boys in the playground.

That is a little tiresome yes

    OK, let's name and shame

FaQQer - always likes to push things a little too far. Swear filter put in place so tries as many ways as possible to say the same things but using different words. School-boy humour. 1 week ban.

DBA bloke. Irritating sod with potty mouth. Could be Richard AF, could be Ginger Sprite Boy, either way don't care, permanent ban.

Money Money Money, pushed it too far trying to get around word filter, 1 week ban.

While we all like to cuss and swear you must remember that this is a public forum and we are responsible for it. We like new people to sign up and ask for advice and regular users being too boisterous puts newbies off. It also makes us all look unprofessional if all we do is flirt with AtW's lady bot army and swear at each other.

Yes, the word filter went a bit wrong. We did have a good laugh yesterday though at "Causus Deli being a right daffodil" and posts about ladies getting their tulips out, far more amusing than a load of asterisks but obviously not the right solution.

We hoped that by gently changing offensive words to flowers and lovely things some of the members would have got the message, unfortunately all they did was try to bypass this and put "the c word" in their posts and generally be offensive.

We thought being all stern and re-pointing out the Terms and Conditions of the site was just a bit boring so opted for this instead. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I agree with Xeno, the forum has got out of control the last few weeks. We have sent out a lot of warnings and threats of bans and yesterday was a good reason to slap a few people.

My main irritation is swearing and general smut, no need for it. We can all be cheeky without needing to resort to this.

Some of the gents on the board are obviously of the sysadmin geek variety as get so excited around those purporting to be female that they show off like boys in the playground. Flirting and talking of "norks" all the time. No need for it. PM each other, get a room, find out it really is AtW's lady bots and then have a nervous breakdown, fair enough, but fawning over each other publicly personally makes me sick.

Final pet hate is people stupidly replying to sensible threads with stupid one liners. "No, next." perfectly acceptable as it is a time-honoured CUK tradition. But someone with a serious tech question being asked "Have you turned it off and on again" is just rubbish. An absolute waste of pixels.

There. Rant over. All we ask is not to swear (as much), be nice to each other and enjoy the forum.

I completely agree, abusive and funny I can deal with but just abusive for the sake of it is a waste of pixel space.

Actually I think things have declined over the last year or so. I'm as guilty as most of posting trivia but I also miss the semi-serious philosophical threads trhat make you think.
