"Wealth is all relative. Paying off a mortgage and owning a property outright gives you plenty of freedom to do what you want."
Too right mate. I was kind of worried that my girlfriend was super shallow but framing it in the right way worked pretty well.
Now we can focus on true happiness. We may never drive sports cars, have designer clothes or live in a mansion but we can do all the cool stuff that in life that take place when you aren't chasing after the dollar.
Maybe do some charity work overseas, or take a year out, maybe have an extra child rather than send a pair of them to private school.
And now I've set the expectations low hopefully working hard and with the investments and business ideas starting to come in then ... we won't be too bad for money anyway... but we can spend it on the things that really matter.

Had a chat with my boyfriend at the weekend about settling down and the future.
It all sounded perfect until he started talking about working for a charity and some such.
I pursed my lips and politely nodded but haven't heard of such nonsense since they ran out of Pimms at Henley a few years ago.
Daddy will not be happy.
Hmm, wonder what Miles is up to these days.

Had a little chat with all this with my bird at the weekend. Explained that I'm not that money motivated and in the future I may earn a lot less and that is fine with me. The most important thing is happiness.
I explained that I work hard and save hard at the moment but in the future I may decide to work for a charity, a university, or some other business that provides me personal satisfaction. I fully intend to earn enough to support a family but my current wage is more than enough for that.
Went across rather well.

Does anyone else here do that too?
