    Accuracy

If you want accuracy then you can get one of those Casio radio watches for around £100 that reset to the correct time by radio signal every evening.

Or you can by a Breitling for 2K that never needs adjusting between services.

And it's not expensive - very reasonable, in fact for what it is...

    Bingo Sysman!

I even put a post asking for help.

    I've bought the white one.

Roy (the watchmaker) is a very nice man with excellent customer service.

    (re. tingle: I suspect it's a man thang... )

    Expensive watch=increased kudos... false!

I remember seeing "Mind Your Ps and Qs" on Beeb 2 with Tony Slattery years back. In one episode, uber snob Jonathan Meades was genuinely horrified to learn that his Rolex was a fake! So, if a snobby arse like him couldn't tell the difference, why bother with the real deal? Buy a nice cheapish digital that looks good. For a relatively small sum, you can get watches that synch with one of those atomic clock jobbies. So, more accurate than a Rolex.

I always lose watches, and, having once lost a ridiculously expensive Rado (limited edition, etc.), I have learned the lesson. Must run in the family, though. My brother lost an Omega limited edition "First Man on the Moon" watch years back. Worth a mint!

Like the one pictured here? White too, or not?

PS. I'll back up the 'tingly' comment.

Do not, do not spend 500 notes on a quartz watch. It'll be no better than a 50 quid watch.

Buy a proper watch, i.e. an automatic with a high beat movement so the secondhand appears to sweep. Get a refurbished one secondhand if the new prices are too much for you.

I have just bought an RLT5.

(Reasonable price but can't be bought on the high st.).

I've just spoken to the watchmaker, he's making it to my specification.

    Nice.

My wife likes wearing my acient Zodiac, even if she complains that its a bit heavy.

'Course I go watchless and just use my mobile phone to check the time when I need to.

    The Breitling Emergency

Saving lives Designed for pilots and aircrews,
the BREITLING EMERGENCY is an instrument watch with built-in
micro-transmitter, broadcasting on the 121.5 MHz aircraft emergency frequency*.
Following a crash or a forced landing, for example, the EMERGENCY will
broadcast a signal on which rescuers can home in. The watch thus serves as a
complement to the aircraft's own distress signaling equipment. The EMERGENCY's
transmitter is activated by unscrewing a protective cap and pulling the antenna
out fully. It will then broadcast for 48 hours. Over flat terrain or calm seas, the
transmitter's signal on the 121.5 MHz aircraft emergency frequency has a range of
about 160 kilometers (100 miles) assuming the search aircraft is flying
    at 6'000 m (about 20,000 feet).
*For military personnel, BREITLING has designed an EMERGENCY version with
start-stop switch that transmits on the 243 MHz frequency.

    ........

Can be put to great use on a friday night in the city if you want to out-watch the traders

    Hi Cojak

Not going to recommend a particular make/model but can offer the following suggestions:

Was at the Bicester shopping village recently and they now have a Tag Heuer shop there with some good watches at well within your budget. Might be worth a look see if you live that way. Linky

An overseas (Far East) etailer might be worth investigating as watches are cheaper there. Linky

The strong £/$ ER may make it worth while buying from a US etailer.

Check out eBay - I bought a watch safely on there a few years ago.

    Clippy.
