You may or may not be aware but speed limiters for vans are on their way. By January 2007 vans of 2.5 to 3.7 tonnes must be limited to 56 mph. This regulation will also effect vans currently on the UK roads i.e. those registered between 1 October 2001 and 31 December 2004 will need to have the speed limiters retrospectively fitted.
However, the main change will come from January 2008 when the regulation gets applied to all vans registered after 1 January 2005. And when we mean all vans we mean all vans that want to access UK roads. This is an EU directive thus imposed throughout Europe.

You still can if you passed your test before the new regs came in, forget the year, you can tootle around on anything up to a 125 on L Plates with it.

Regularly used to drive a 7.5 tonne MAN horsebox on my standard license. Was suprisingly easy to manouver in a tight spot but crap for long distances cos it was so bloody slow. ( Think cruising at 50Mph. )
